Could Accelerated Mobiles Pages (AMP) change the way we do SEO forever?

AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Page and it is some new technology headed by Google that requires your website code to be marked-up, be more light weight and, according to Google, is a step in a direction that will make search and finding content more intuitive to searchers.

AMP is NOT your mobile website, it is slightly different, but if you are hiding valuable content on your mobile website then you could start to be affected by AMP.

Google is now looking to highlight snippets of important information from your website in the search results, this means that if you are hiding content, particularly on your mobile website than you could lose out in the search engine rankings.

It appears Google is moving away from desktop websites to mobile websites as their main way of ranking websites, however, just being a mobile website is not enough as you will now need to start looking at how your code is structured and present it to google in a certain and structured way to get the most out of Google in the future.

AMP is a project that is aimed at making the web a quicker, smoother, less clunky place. The official word from the project is:

“The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project is an open source initiative that embodies the vision that publishers can create mobile optimized content once and have it load instantly everywhere”

With the emphasis now on AMP, now is the time to start looking at optimising your code to be in alignment with AMP.
